Tooth Extractions in Fremont, CA

Why Would My Kid Need A Tooth Extraction?

At Mission Peak Pediatric Dentistry, our primary goal is to protect your child’s teeth and keep their mouth healthy. We offer alternatives to tooth extraction and offer minimally-invasive options to repair your child’s teeth when possible. We only choose tooth extractions as a last resort.

Still, there are some situations where saving a tooth may not be ideal or may be impossible. For example, if your child has a severely decayed baby tooth, it may need to be pulled to prevent further infections. Or, if your child breaks an adult tooth, the damage may be too extensive to save the tooth, and it may require extraction. Please feel free to contact our office today for more information.

What To Expect From The Pediatric Tooth Extraction Process

Numbing and sedation

To begin the process, Dr. Michael Wang will clean and numb your child’s mouth. We also offer sedation dentistry in Fremont, which makes it easy for your little one to get the care they need at Mission Peak Pediatric Dentistry.

Extracting the tooth

Once your child’s mouth is numb and their sedation has taken effect, Dr. Michael will use a variety of tools to wiggle their tooth loose in the socket. Once it’s loose enough, Dr. Michael will pull it out of the socket.

Cleaning and suturing

After removing your little one’s tooth, our Fremont pediatric dentist will clean up the area and disinfect it. Then, he will use self-dissolving sutures to stitch up the empty socket. Then, he’ll repeat the extraction process if your child needs multiple tooth extractions.

Post-treatment recovery

Once your child’s extraction is over, Dr. Michael will give you some instructions that you’ll need to follow to make sure your little one heals up properly. Initial recovery after surgery takes only a day or two, but it may take up to two weeks for the mouth to feel completely normal.

scheduling your next visit

In most cases, you’ll simply schedule your next six-month checkup. But if Dr. Wang has noticed a problem with your child’s oral health, he’ll discuss it with you, and help you schedule the necessary follow-ups to take care of it and keep your little one’s mouth healthy.

Types Of Tooth Extractions We Offer

Basic Extractions

In a basic extraction, no surgery is needed to remove your child’s tooth. This type of extraction can be used when the tooth has fully erupted. Dr. Michael will clean and numb your child’s mouth, then use tools to wiggle the tooth loose and remove it from your child’s mouth.

Basic extractions can be used on both adult and baby teeth. However, there are some situations where a surgical extraction may be necessary. If this is the case, we’ll work with you to refer you and your child to an experienced pediatric oral surgeon in Fremont.

Not usually. Healthy baby teeth don’t have to be extracted. Instead, they will just fall out naturally once it’s time for your little one’s adult teeth to emerge.

But in some cases, baby teeth may need to be pulled. For example, if your child’s baby tooth is infected or breaks, it may need to be extracted before it’s time to fall out naturally. If this is the case, Dr. Michael may also recommend a space maintainer. This device helps maintain the proper spacing in your child’s mouth until their adult tooth erupts.

No. Your child’s mouth will be completely numb during the procedure, and we offer sedation to help them stay comfortable. Your little one may experience some discomfort as they heal, but their surgery will not cause them any pain or discomfort.
